How to Order
Due to the precision and clarity needed to build a fireplace mantel or mantel shelve all orders for any of our products are only accepted by phone or in person. Generally a credit card is accepted at the time an order is placed and then charged to the card on the date of shipment. The use of photo's faxes, e-mail and the postal system are helpful tools in communicating the necessary information to build a custom mantel. Patience is also very helpful as we are building furniture to your specifications to the 32nd of an inch. The "How to Measure" section below will also prove to be helpful in ordering a full surround or interchangeable mantel. We are here to make sure your ordering, receiving, or installing a mantel from HMC is a pleasant and enjoyable experience.

How to Measure
This section applies to Full Surrounds, Interchangeable, and Elite Interchangeable mantels only. Measuring for the mantel shelves, collectible shelves and other products is covered in their respective web pages.

Most fireplace manufacturers produce 36" and 42" models, wood and gas burning. These widths, along with the local building codes and manufacturers specs determine the minimum separation from the firebox to the wood surface of the mantel (Dimensions A & B on diagram below). Generally, 40" is sufficient for (A), and 48" for (B) using a 36" firebox. A 42" firebox will usually require a dimension of 42" for (A) and 54" for (B), but once again building codes and the manufacturer's specifications must be maintained. A third Dimension (C) is determined by the distance the facing material (marble brick, tile, slate, etc.) projects forward of the fireplace wall. Thus if the facing material is flush with the wall (does not protrude forward of the wall) then (C) is equal to zero.

Other helpful dimensions include W, X, Y, & Z. (See below). The dimensions (D through I) accompanying each mantel on its respective web page will be affected by A, B, C. For example, as the inside height (A) is increased by 4" from its standard, so will a mantle's overall height (E) be increased by 4". Despite this might seem confusing by simply filling in the blanks below, a custom built Hawkeye Mantel can be produced to fit perfectly every time for your home gauranteed.
